With over 11 years of experience as a top producer in a male-dominated corporate environment, Elinor faced challenges that would have deterred many. She was dismissed as “unworthy of training” by colleagues who underestimated her potential.

Determined to prove her worth, she enrolled in a Dale Carnegie public speaking course, overcoming her initial fear of addressing an audience. By sharing relatable corporate stories, she discovered the power of storytelling as a tool for connection. Winning the Grand Prize in the course validated her approach, and clients began referring to her as “a breath of fresh air.” This feedback fueled her confidence, earning her the title of top producer and setting the foundation for her future endeavors.

Turning Adversity into a Mission

Elinor’s resilience was tested further during a life-changing car accident that left her with persistent pain for a decade. A second accident years later led to a near-death experience, which became a turning point in her life. Encased in a radiant golden light, she experienced two visions: one guiding her to become a speaker and the other urging her to contribute to her community.

Inspired by these visions, she committed to healing and transforming her life’s mission. Despite warnings of potential paralysis, Elinor underwent experimental treatment that resulted in a miraculous recovery. The medical staff hailed her as “The Walking Miracle,” and her mantra, “Believe, Become, Empower,” became a guiding principle.

This experience marked the birth of Smooth Sale, a platform designed to empower others with the tools and insights needed for sales success. Elinor’s promise to give back to communities remains central to her work, exemplifying her belief in the transformative power of adversity.

Breaking Barriers in a Male-Dominated Industry

Transitioning to entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley, Elinor faced skepticism and ridicule as a female sales trainer. Undeterred, she embraced the challenge, writing her first book, Nice Girls DO Get the Sale: Relationship Building That Gets Results. The book became an international bestseller, earning a feature in TIME Magazine and garnering attention from major media outlets like ABC-TV News.

The book’s success stemmed from its candid narrative, blending humor with hard-hitting truths about corporate culture. Elinor shared lessons on standing up to bullies, fostering connections across all organizational levels, and advocating for a relationship-driven sales approach. Its enduring relevance was cemented during the COVID-19 pandemic when it was deemed an evergreen classic.

Adversity as a Catalyst for Growth

Elinor’s commitment to serving others extended beyond sales training to motivational speaking. Guided by Les Brown’s mentorship, she captivated audiences with her authentic storytelling, earning standing ovations at conferences worldwide.

Her ability to connect with diverse audiences is rooted in her personal experiences of overcoming bullying and social rejection during her formative years. Travel, which she began at the age of 16, further broadened her perspective, fostering a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and strengthening her advocacy for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Adapting to Collaboration and Technological Change

The rise of social media presented a new challenge: embracing collaboration over competition. A marketing expert encouraged Elinor to adopt a more inclusive approach to networking, leading her to create The Smooth Sale Blog. Initially conceived as a community service project, the blog has evolved into a powerful platform for sharing diverse perspectives and fostering partnerships with Fortune 100 and 500 companies.

Through the blog, Elinor has empowered countless readers by providing actionable insights and inspiring stories. Her commitment to staying current with technological advancements underscores her belief in continuous growth and adaptation.
